Mateo helps investors, governments and corporations navigate the energy transition.

His career has spanned three regions and multiple institutional contexts. He began in global investment banking at Deutsche Bank in London and Geneva, focusing on energy and infrastructure finance. He then spent three years at Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, working on energy investment strategy. Later, he advised on energy transition investment at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and helped shape their low-carbon strategy.

Mateo grew up in Makati City, the son of a Filipino mother and Spanish father who worked in the energy sector. After high school, he spent 18 months travelling: six months backpacking through South America, six months in the Middle East, and six months in Barcelona. After his bachelor’s, he took another six months for safari and conservation volunteering in Kenya and Tanzania before beginning his master’s.
